Effect

Generation II

Snore can only be used if the user is sleeping; it will fail in any other case.

Snore inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of causing the target to flinch.

Generation III

If Sleep Talk or Snore is used at least once consecutively in the turns right before switching out, the Pokémon will sleep for the same amount of turns as were remaining prior to the usage of those two moves when switched back in.

Pokémon with the Ability Soundproof are not affected by this move.

Snore can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra four appeal points if Rest was used in the prior turn.

Generations IV and V

Turns where Snore is used are always counted towards waking the Pokémon.

Generation VI onwards

Snore's power changed from 40 to 50.

Snore will become a Water-type move when used by a Pokémon with the Ability Liquid Voice. If the user is affected by Throat Chop, it will be unable to use this move for two turns.

Snore will have its power boosted by 30% when used by a Pokémon with the Ability Punk Rock. The damage dealt by Snore will also be halved when used against a Pokémon with Punk Rock. If the user is holding a Throat Spray, the item will be consumed and the user's Special Attack stat will be raised by one stage.

Snore can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Rest was used in the prior turn.

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, and Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, Snore is a move with a base power of 4, 16 PP, and 95% accuracy. Using it will have no effect; rather, it will automatically be used if the Pokémon that uses it is asleep and is attacked. It has a range of one tile, although it will be triggered even if the attacker is out of range. It has a 30% chance to cause the target to cringe. It is completely unaffected by the cowering and confusion status conditions, and cannot be linked. It is affected by Muzzled status condition, and being a sound-based move, is blocked by Soundproof. This move will always be picked over Sleep Talk.

In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Snore instead has a base power of 20 (up to 50), a base accuracy of 90 (up to 98), and max PP of 25 (up to 40). Rather than function as a counterattack, it instead is used automatically if there are any nearby enemies, and affects all enemies surrounding the user. It may still cause flinching.
