Backpacker (Trainer class)

A Backpacker (Japanese: バックパッカー Backpacker) is a type of Trainer class introduced in Generation V. They are young men and women who carry large backpacks and most often use only one Pokémon.

In Generation V, Backpackers at Big Stadium and Small Court give out Max Repels when defeated. A large number of Backpackers can be found in Nacrene City.

In Generation VI, only male Backpackers are present. They appear to be a younger version of a Hiker. Outside the Battle Maison, most of them only use Normal-type Pokémon.

In Generation VII, there are only female Backpackers, whose design is similar to the one in Generation V. At the Battle Royal Dome, Backpackers specialize in Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon. At the Battle Tree, Backpackers exclusively use Legendary Pokémon during later battles.

In Generation VIII, only female Backpackers appear. Their design is different from that of previous female Backpackers, as they have black hair and wear headbands and worn-out jeans. In the Battle Tower, Backpackers specialize in Flying- and Ground-type Pokémon.
