Questions tagged [build-plate]

The build plate is the surface the print is created on, note that the build plate can consist of different types of surfaces (tag build-surface).

The build plate describes the flat piece of material you print on. A heated build plate is called a heat-bed (see separate tag). The material of the build plate influences the adhesion of the print material substantially and heat transfer.

Using dollar-store picture glass for print bed on top of original heated aluminum bed?

I'm having a really hard time printing on my aluminum heated bed... Cleaning it just results in it being scratched (trying to scrape dried hairspray/glue/etc off) and I don't think it is particularly flat either. I was thinking of stopping by the…

Do I need a heated bed for printing PLA in an enclosed printer?

I am planning on building a large enclosed (Cartesian XY-Head) 3d printer. I want to keep the inital build time minimal and it is very likely I would need to build the ~50x50cm heatbed from scratch, because it doesn't exist in ebay. The enclosure…

Does the printing substrate have to be glass? If so, what size?

I am new to 3D printing. I have just put together my own 3D printer with some help. I was advised I shouldn't print directly onto the aluminium plate - I assume it's aluminium. The manufacturer did give me a piece of matrix board (i.e. no cooper at…
