Etymology
From macierz + -a. Doublet of mać (“mother”), macierz (“matrix”), and mutra (“nut for a bolt”). mać comes from leveling to the nominative stem, macierz and maciora from leveling to the two oblique stems, and mutra was borrowed from German.
