engegar
Catalan
Etymology
Numerous derivations have been proposed, including:
- From a Vulgar Latin *exjacicar, from *iacium (“bed, bedding”) (source of jaç), from Latin iaceō (“I lie”).
- From an Andalusi Arabic form of Arabic تَشَكَّى (tašakkā), frequentive/intensive of شَكَا (šakā, “to complain”) (source of xacra).
- From Latin īnstīgō (“I incite, I urge”) (source of instigar).
- From a Vulgar Latin *indeagare, alteration of indāgō (“I track, I hunt”) (source of indagar).
