Old Portuguese
Etymology
From Latin flōrem, accusative of flōs, from Proto-Italic *flōs, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (“flower, blossom”), from *bʰel- (“to bloom”). This (unattested/hypothetical) form would have undergone the normal or expected phonetic change from Latin, and is reconstructed using the descendants in Galician and Portuguese. The primary and attested form is flor or fror.
Pronunciation
