- The Philippine Hokkien term may extend to any Filipino who is not or does not identify as Chinese Filipino (Chinoy), especially Filipinos of pure or majority ethnic Austronesian descent, such as ethnic Tagalogs, Bisayas, Ilocanos, Bicolanos, Pampangos, Pangasinenses, Maranaos, Tausugs, Igorots, Lumads, etc., although the definition also fits some Filipino Mestizos (e.g. Spanish Mestizos or Chinese Mestizos & Tornatras who were not raised as nor identify as Chinoy), Negrito Filipinos, Spanish Filipinos, Japanese Filipinos, Indian Filipinos, Korean Filipinos, Iranian Filipinos, Jewish Filipinos, etc., especially if the Philippine Hokkien speaker is not personally familiar with the subject's ethnic background, which is a common situation unless the person specifically identified themselves as Chinese Filipino as well.
