Pikanium Z

The Pikanium Z (Japanese: ピカチュウZ Pikachu Z) is a type of Z-Crystal introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. It is a Pokémon-specific Z-Crystal associated with Pikachu and allows it to upgrade its Volt Tackle into the special Z-Move Catastropika.

Bag item

Can create Pikanium Z held items for the player's Pokémon.

In battle

Allows Pikachu except Pikachu in a cap (or a Pokémon transformed into Pikachu, except a Pikachu in a cap) to upgrade its Volt Tackle into the special Z-Move Catastropika.

Unaffected by item negating effects (such as Embargo and Klutz). Item manipulating effects (such as Trick and Fling) cannot remove a Z-Crystal from a Pokémon.

Rayquaza cannot Mega Evolve if it holds a Z-Crystal.

Outside of battle

A held Pikanium Z is automatically removed if the Pokémon is traded between players.

A Pikanium Z in the anime

A Pikanium Z was first seen in A Plethora of Pikachu!, under the ownership of Pikala. She used it with her Shiny Pikachu to perform Catastropika on Jessie's Mimikyu and stop Team Rocket from stealing all of the Pikachu from Pikachu Valley.
