Heart Scales first appeared in a fantasy in Partner Promises!, when Mallow mentioned how the jewelry shop "Alola Sunrise" makes its jewelry from Heart Scales and Corsola branches.
A Heart Scale made its first proper appearance in the Poké Problem extra scene of SM120, where Lana showed one to her classmates, jokingly claiming that it was a Kyogre scale.
A Heart Scale appeared in A Recipe for Success!, where Mallow obtained one from a group of Fearow that had come to visit Oranguru's place.
Trivia
- Heart Scales are the shed scales of Luvdisc.
- In Alola, they can be obtained at the Vast Poni Canyon trial site, implying they can also be the shed scales of the Jangmo-o evolutionary line. This is further supported by the fact that Jangmo-o has a heart-shaped scale on its head.
- In Pokémon X and Y, the Heart Scale is incorrectly sorted in the Bag as an Evolution stone when the Bag is sorted by type, instead of as an exchangeable item.
