- condominium (company established to own and govern one or more buildings, which may be residential or office building)
Usage notes
Legally speaking taloyhtiö and condominium are not exactly the same. When one buys a flat in a taloyhtiö, one actually buys a numbered set of shares of the building company, which entitles their owner to occupy a specific flat, but the legal ownership of the flat itself remains with the company. It also differs from a housing cooperative in the sense that usually the current residents have no control on who may buy the shares which somebody wants to sell.
