Inherited from Proto-Slavic *sedъlò, from Proto-Germanic *sadulaz, from Proto-Indo-European *sod-tlō-, from the root *sed- (to sit). In the meaning ‘hamlet, village’ from Proto-Slavic *sědlo (the form different from expected *siadło possibly due to influence from either *selo or *sedъlo).
