nahkea

Finnish

Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *nahkeda, probably derived from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ńëčke (wet) (compare Northern Sami njuoskâs, Erzya начко (načko, wet), Eastern Mari [script needed] (načkə), Khanty ня̆саҳ (nâ̆sah̦)). For *hk < *čk, compare puhjeta. Related to Ingrian nahkia and probably Estonian nahkjas. Alternatively from nahka.
