From Malay maklumat, from Classical Malay معلومات‎ (ma'lumat), from Arabic معلومات‎ (maʿlūmāt), plural of مَعْلُوم‎ (maʿlūm, “known”), passive participle of عَلِمَ‎ (ʿalima, “to know”).[1] Doublet of maklum.
