Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Uralic *luwe (“bone”)[1] + the suffix -b, used in an unusual diminutive function. Compare Northern Mansi лу and Finnish luu.
Alternately, from Proto-Uralic *lümpe (“blade, flat part, width (of hand or foot)”)[2], akin to Selkup [script needed] (laamp).
