From Proto-Finnic *kiima (compare Estonian kiim, Karelian kiima, Veps kim), from Proto-Uralic *kixe-ma, derived from *kixe- (compare Northern Sami gihkat, Komi-Zyrian [script needed] (kojnι), Northern Khanty [script needed] (koj-), Northern Mansi [script needed] (kaj-), Hungarian kéj).
