estanear

Spanish

Alternative forms

Etymology

From English stan (an overly zealous fan).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /estaneˈaɾ/, [est̪aneˈaɾ]

Verb

estanear (first-person singular present estaneo, first-person singular preterite estaneé, past participle estaneado)

  1. (transitive) to stan

Conjugation

      Usage notes

      • Spanish orthography requires a vowel be placed before or after an s, hence why some Spanish speakers insert vowels (more specifically e) into English words without vowels before or after the s. For example, they may pronounce stop as estop or scared as escared. Therefore, an e is inserted into the beginning of this word even though the English word that was borrowed to make this word, stan, does not have an e.
