French

Etymology

From Middle French aussi, from Old French ossi, ausi, alsi (as, in the same way as), from Vulgar Latin *ale si (other so, else so), from Latin alid, aliud (other, another, any other, else) + sīc (so, thus). Compare Old French altresi (as, in the same way as, also, as well). Probably a calque of Frankish *allswā (as, likewise, in the same way).
