Kiev
English
Etymology
From Russian Ки́ев (Kíjev), from Old East Slavic Киевъ (Kievŭ) from the name of a legendary founder, Кий (Kij), from Proto-Slavic *kyjь "stick, club", though some dismiss this as folk etymology and instead trace it to a local word. Compare Ukrainian Ки́їв (Kýjiv), from Кий (Kyj).
