Rain Dogs (TV series)

Rain Dogs is a British comedy-drama series created, written, and executive produced by Cash Carraway for BBC One and HBO. It stars Daisy May Cooper, Jack Farthing, Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo and Fleur Tashjian. The series premiered on HBO on 6 March 2023, followed by 4 April on BBC One in the UK, and is available to stream on HBO Max and BBC iPlayer.

Production

Rain Dogs is executive produced by Cash Carraway, Lee Morris, Sally Woodward Gentle, and Jo McLellan for BBC One. The series is directed by Richard Laxton and Jennifer Perrott.[4] It is reportedly named after musical artist Tom Waits' record of the same name about “people who sleep in doorways.[5]

Filming

Principal photography took place in Bristol at The Bottle Yard Studios as well as in North Somerset and Gloucestershire.[6][7] Filming was reported to have wrapped by October 2022.[8]

Broadcast

A first trailer for the show was released in February 2023.[9] The series was aired on BBC One and iPlayer from April 4, 2023.[10][11]

The series premiered on HBO on 6 March 2023 and will be available to stream on HBO Max.[12]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Rain Dogs holds an approval rating of 93% based on 14 reviews.[13]

Critical reception

Hollie Richardson in The Guardian described it as “authentic, original and well worth tuning in to.”[14] Dan Einav in The Financial Times said that it “plays as both a bruising tragedy…and as an obscene, gallows humour comedy.”[15] Alan Sepinwell in Rolling Stone described it as “fascinating, poignant, and at times darkly funny”.[16]
