The 1958 pageant had only four contestants because of political problems and the lack of sponsors for the event motivated by the recent 1958 Venezuelan coup d'état against President Marcos Pérez Jiménez. This also caused the cancellation of the Miss Venezuela 1959 edition being the second and last time in the history of the pageant. The first cancellation occurred in 1954.
