Camelot Software Planning
Camelot Co., Ltd.[lower-alpha 1] (doing business as Camelot Software Planning) is a Japanese video game developer established on April 4, 1994 by Shugo Takahashi, who had previously worked at his brother Hiroyuki's company Sonic! Software Planning. Though they did some independent development, such as the early PlayStation RPG Beyond the Beyond, most of Camelot's early work was joint development with Sonic on the Shining Force series. Sonic would ultimately be merged into Camelot in 1998, and Hiroyuki Takahashi took over as director.

In 1998, Camelot became an affilate company of Nintendo, and would exclusively produce software for their platforms, becoming well known for the Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and Golden Sun series. They have since produced titles for publishers other than Nintendo, but they continue to support Nintendo's hardware almost exclusively.
The company is based in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, and as of January 2010 employs 42 people.
History
Camelot has roots in the Sega division known as Sega CD4 (Consumer Development Studio #4),[3] led by Hiroyuki Takahashi, soon changing their name to Sonic! Software Planning, which was formed to create, alongside Climax Entertainment, Shining in the Darkness for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The studio also developed other successful games in the franchise, including Shining Force and Shining Force II.[3] In 1998, Sonic! officially separated from Sega, and merged with Camelot.
By Shining Force III, the studio had begun operating under its current name, Camelot Software Planning. In late 1998, Sega began focusing their resources on the Dreamcast, leaving Camelot with their final Shining Force III scenario, for the Sega Saturn, in jeopardy. Though the scenario was released, Camelot decided to move away from Sega completely and have since worked mostly for Nintendo.[3]
The company developed many Mario sports games, including Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis,[3] as well as the Golden Sun series of role-playing games.[3]
The creation of the Mario character, Waluigi, can be attributed to Camelot Software, after Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto consulted with them to create a "Wario-like" counterpart for Luigi during the development of Mario Tennis.
