AN/AAQ-40 Electro-Optical Targeting System
The AN/AAQ-40 Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) is an electro-optical targeting system fielded onboard Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. It is the world's first sensor that combines the functionalities of both forward-looking infrared and infrared search and track into one compact sensor with air-to-air and air-to-surface targeting capability. To preserve stealth, the sensor is mounted on F-35's fuselage with a durable sapphire window and is linked to the plane's integrated core processor through a high-speed fiber optic cable.[1]
