Information

Start of an Adventure is the first Korean extension set of cards after a long break of not releasing anything for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Released May 13, 2010, this extension set is the first to feature both Generation IV Pokémon and Pokémon LV.X in the Korean Card Game. The set and its four accompanying Random Decks focus on the Generation IV starter Pokémon and Raichu, and only include cards of the Grass-type, Fire-type, Water-type, Lightning-type, and Colorless-type, saving the other four types for the third extension set: Collapse of Time & Space.

The set includes 60 cards, which originate from all over the Diamond & Pearl series and the Platinum series. This is because there needed to be a large amount of Pokémon of the five included types in order to not only fill the set, but also the subset that the four Random Decks included, in addition to providing enough Pokémon in order to build meaningful decks around a specific type. However, as the focus is still Generation IV starter Pokémon, more than half of the extension set is occupied by cards that originate from the Japanese Space-Time Creation expansion (the English Diamond & Pearl expansion).

The Pokémon LV.X for this extension set are Torterra LV.X, Infernape LV.X, and Empoleon LV.X. The Legendary birds are also included, as they are one of the few sets of Legendary Pokémon that were both released in the Generation IV Card Game and completely fit into the limited types included in the extension. Much like the first releases of any English Series or Japanese Era, the Trainer cards released are only of the most standard and basic Trainer cards, in order to provide players with the most essential engines, needed to run a deck. There are no Supporter cards or Stadium cards. Many of the Pokémon evolutionary families are also included within the four Random Decks.
