Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *Tīwas dagaz (“Tuesday”, literally “Tiw's Day”), from *Tīwaz (“Tyr, god of war”) + *dagaz (“day”). This form is a standardized form of the sole attestation, which is Alemannic ciesdac. Others reconstruct a lemma *ziostag instead.
