Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *Tīwas dagaz (Tuesday, literally Tiw's Day), from *Tīwaz (Tyr, god of war) + *dagaz (day). This form is a standardized form of the sole attestation, which is Alemannic ciesdac. Others reconstruct a lemma *ziostag instead.
