truncated cube

truncated cube (plural truncated cubes)

1. (geometry) A polyhedron with eight triangular and six octagonal faces that is an Archimedean solid and can be constructed by truncating a cube at each vertex along each adjoining edge.

     The truncation procedure that produced the truncated cube I can be applied to arbitrary polyhedra so as to obtain new polyhedra.

     The truncated cubes are obtained by symmetrically edging the eight vertices of the cube by l × t, where l is the length of the cubes side and 0 < t ≤ 1/2. When t = 1/2, a cuboctahedron is obtained.
