1. (historical, Sweden and Finland from 17th to early 20th century) copyhold (farm, part of a larger farm or manor, the rent of which was paid through work on the owner's land and sometimes with produce)
2. A house on such farm.
3. cottage (small farmhouse)

• The land ownership system in England differed from that of Sweden and Finland and thus torppa and "copyhold" are not exactly equivalent forms of land tenure.
• If the lessee rented the whole farm, the property was called lampuotitila and the lessee was lampuoti.
