Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish تدقیق‎ (tedkik, “comminution”), from Arabic تَدْقِيق‎‎ (tadqīq), from the root د ق ق‎ (d-q-q) related to small pieces or particles. Compare Azerbaijani tədqiq. The original sense of beating into slender form or grinding into fine particles is obsolete.
