From Ottoman Turkish تأثر‎, from Arabic تَأَثُّر‎ (taʾaṯṯur), verbal noun of تَأَثَّرَ‎ (taʾaṯṯara, “to be influenced”). Cognate with Azerbaijani təəssür.
