Etymology
From Proto-Finno-Ugric *śata (“hundred”). Cognates include Mansi са̄т (sāt, “hundred”), Finnish sata and Estonian sada. Originally borrowed from an Indo-Iranian language; compare Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬙𐬀 (sata), Sanskrit शत (śatá).
