Etymology

From Persian سِدر (sedr) from French cèdre as if with Classical Persian vocalism. Alternatively, misread from Ottoman Turkish سِدْر, having the reading sedr from French cèdre and the reading sidr from Arabic سِدْر (sidr, buckthorn).
