Etymology

Gheg form of Tosk senë, from Proto-Albanian *sana, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁s-ónt- (active participle of *h₁es- (to be)) (compare Old English sōþ (true), Old Lithuanian santi, Ancient Greek ἐών (eṓn, being)).

Although archaic, it is still used in rural villages in Kosovo. It did not go through the *s to *gj shift, comparable to the Gheg Kosovo dialect not rhotacising.

  • IPA(key): /sænə/

Noun

  1. thing
