Etymology
Possibly of Japanese origin, according to Potet (2016) and the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino. Compare Bengali/Bangladeshi English sando-genji, Assamese English sando-ganji, Kapampangan sandu and Hindi सैंडो (saiṇḍo). Another theory says that the word is named after German vaudeville showman and bodybuilder Eugene Sandow (1867-1925) who wore a sleeveless shirt when showing off his muscles.
