rancang

Indonesian

Etymology

Inherited from Malay رانچڠ, rancang (peg; to plan, to prepare), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *rcaŋ (to prick, to pierce, to insert; rack, framework).[1]

  • The sense of to plan, to prepare is reinforced by semantic loan from Javanese ꦫꦚ꧀ꦕꦁ (rancang, to set up, to assemble; to design, to draw; to estimate), from Old Javanese rañcaṅ, ultimately from the same Proto-Mon-Khmer reconstruction.
