From Vulgar Latin *pēsāre, from Latin pēnsāre, present active infinitive of pēnsō (to hang), whence also the borrowed doublet pansà. Compare Venetian pexar, Italian pesare, Neapolitan penzà, Friulian pesâ, Romanian păsa.
