From Proto-Albanian * ̊truδ-[1], or *entrūda[2], from Proto-Indo-European *trewd- (to squeeze, crush, press). Cognate to Old Church Slavonic троудити (truditi, to load, plague), Latin trūdō (to thrust, push), Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌸𐍂𐌹𐌿𐍄𐌰𐌽 (usþriutan, to burden).
