Contraction of nä, pronunciational spelling of nej (“no”), and men (“but”).

Pronunciation
  • IPA(key): /nɛmɛn/
  • Not stressed; stress comes on a word later in the sentence. In the usage example, the only word stressed is du.

  1. Expresses strong surprise, often positive
    Nämen, är du här?
    Oh, you're here?
  2. Used at the beginning of answers to any question.
