meinetwegen

German

Etymology

Shortened from von meinen Wegen.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈmaɪ̯nətˌveːɡən/, /ˌmaɪ̯nətˈveːɡən/
  • (file)

Adverb

meinetwegen

  1. because of me, for my sake
    Das ist alles meinetwegen passiert.
All of this happened because of me.
  2. (informal) as far as I'm concerned (I don't mind if); for all I care
    Meinetwegen können Sie mitkommen.
As far as I am concerned, you can come with us.
Synonyms: meinethalben, von mir aus, ruhig

Usage notes

Colloquially, this term is usually constructed with the separated form (especially in the southern language area), thus wegen mir instead of meinetwegen. In sense 2, however, both are equally common in the vernacular.
