malalt

Catalan

Etymology

From Old Catalan malalte, variant of Old Catalan malaute, from Latin male + habitus, derived from male sē habēre (to feel bad, be sick).

The development -B'T- > -lt- occurred with [wt] as an intermediate, and can also be observed in colze, from Latin cubitum (elbow), and delme (tithe), from earlier *[ˈdɛdzemo] via a regular dz > w sound change, from Latin decimus (tenth).
