Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish قوریمق (korumak), itself from Common Turkic *kōrï-. Cognate with Azerbaijani qorumaq (“to protect”), Old Turkic 𐰸𐰆𐰺 (korï-, “to protect”), Uzbek qoʻrimoq (“to protect”). Compare also Mongolian хорих (xorix, “to forbad; prison”), Nanai хориори (xoriori, “to protect”).
