(grammar) A question asked in an indirect way; either as a statement, for example I'd like to know how much I would earn; or enclosed in another question, for example Could you tell me how much I would earn?

Usage notes

In English, an indirect question is considered more formal and polite than a direct question (How much would I earn?)
