Etymology
Possibly ultimately from Sanskrit हृदय (hṛdaya, “soul, mind, spirit”, literally “heart”), according to Zorc (1982). On surface analysis possibly from hi- + daya. Compare Pali hadaya (“feeling”, literally “heart”), Old Javanese ḥṛdaya (“mind”), and Indonesian daya. Many sources say it is from Cebuano haraya, but Zorc (1982) does not believe so.
Pronunciation
- Hyphenation: ha‧ra‧ya
- IPA(key): /haˈɾajaʔ/, [hɐˈɾa.jɐʔ]
