għamieq

Maltese

Etymology

Probably from Arabic أَعْماق (ʾaʿmāq, depths), plural of عُمْق (ʿumq). Alternatively from the nominalised adjective عَمِيق (ʿamīq, deep), or from a blend of them. The forms would have merged phonetically in Maltese. Compare għammieq.
