Etymology

Campidanese alteration of older Sardinian dominica~dominiga (which survive in Nuorese and Logudorese respectively), from Late Latin diēs Dominica (literally day of the Lord). The change in gender, which is relatively recent, reflects the influence of Spanish domingo, which has also been borrowed directly as domingu, a form popular in places such as Villacidro and Sant'Antioco.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /doˈminiɡu/
