From Ottoman Turkish دیڭله‌مك (diŋlemek, to listen, hear, pay attention to, obey, conform to), from Proto-Turkic *tïŋ-la-mak, *tiŋ-le-mek (to listen), derived from Proto-Turkic *tiŋ (reason, mind). Compare Old Turkic 𐱃𐰃𐰭𐰞𐰀 (tïŋla-, to listen), Karakhanid تِنْكْلاماقْ (tïŋlāmāq, to listen), Turkmen diňlemek (to listen), Salar diñne, Kazakh тыңдау (tyñdau), Tatar тыңларга (tıñlarga).
