Etymology

From Common Turkic *bokak, a derivation of Common Turkic *bok/*buk/*būk (swelling in the mouth); alternatively, a derivation from Proto-Turkic *bog- (to strangle), whence also Azerbaijani boğmaq and Azerbaijani boğaz[1]. Cognate with Turkish boğak (tonsillitis, angina), and dialectal buḫağ (double chin).
