From Middle French buleter, beluter, from Middle High German biuteln, biūtel, from Old High German butil (pouch, bag), from Proto-Germanic *buzdô (beetle, grub, swelling), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰūs- (to move quickly). Cognate with Dutch buidel; compare also Galician barutar and Italian burattare.
