antapi

Tocharian B

Etymology

From Proto-Tocharian *āntӓp(ӓ)i, from a form of Proto-Indo-European *h₂ent- (face, front). This word provides an interesting viewpoint into the semantic derivation from *h₂ent-, as *h₂m̥bʰi, with the same meaning of antapi is a form of *h₂ent-, several well-known reflexes thereof being German um and Latin ambo. Cognates derived directly from *h₂ent- include English and, Latin ante, Sanskrit अन्ति (ánti), and Old Armenian ընդ (ənd).

Adverb

antapi

  1. both
