Borrowed from a Nahuan language, equivalent to Classical Nahuatl *Xōchāpan (= xōchitl (“flower”) + āpan (“river”)), calqued from a Mixtec language; c.f. Alcozauca Mixtec I̱ta Ita, from i̱ta (“river”) + ita (“flower”).
