Borrowed from a Nahuan language, equivalent to Classical Nahuatl *Xōchāpan (= xōchitl (flower) + āpan (river)), calqued from a Mixtec language; c.f. Alcozauca Mixtec I̱ta Ita, from i̱ta (river) + ita (flower).
