Borrowed from a Nahuan language, equivalent to Classical Nahuatl *Xōchāpan (= xōchitl (“flower”) +‎ āpan (“river”)), calqued from a Mixtec language; c.f. Alcozauca Mixtec I̱ta Ita, from i̱ta (“river”) +‎ ita (“flower”).
