Etymology

From Medieval Latin sānicula, first attested in Hildegard of Bingen, probably originally meaning Sanicula europaea, derived from sānāre (to heal), also sānāria, however also debauched in use for various unrelated plants and also a synonym of dispēnsāria shed by Linné as Diapensaria.
