Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *skaujás, from Proto-Indo-European *skow-y-o-s, from *skw-oy- (“needle, prickle; thorn”), from *ksew- (“to scrape, shave, sharpen”), from *kes- (“to scrape, comb”).
Compare Albanian hu (“stake, pole; penis”) (from Proto-Albanian *skuna < *skuja + *-na, from Proto-Indo-European *skow-y-o-s).
